The purpose of the PTO is to make ACS a better place for our kids to come to school, a better place for our teachers to come to work and if we accomplish both of those - well... I think we have done our job.  Meetings  will be on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 in the fellowship hall.  We will do our best to stick to 1 hour.  The format will be round table so that we can openly discuss what we are working on, new ideas, what is working, what is not working and just bounce ideas off of each other.

Hey parents-

I am absolutely thrilled to have been asked to start a PTO at ACS!!!    I just wanted to do a quick follow up from our meeting.

In a nut shell - here are the things we want to accomplish and need your help!

We want to be in the community so that we can increase the awareness of ACS.   We lined up community awareness activities every month for the first semester of the year starting now.

Another thing we want to focus on is how parents can help.  I think lots of parents want to help but honestly just don't know how and where they can add value.  We have come up with a list of things we want to do this year and want everyone to consider how they might help.  Some people might be able to do one thing but do it really well while others might be able to sign up for everything.  Every little bit will make a huge difference I promise.

As Brother Rodney discussed in the last open house, there is a gap between what the school collects for tuition and what it actually costs to run the school.  In order to fill that gap - ACS has two fund raisers a year.

To do some of the things that we want to do, we will obviously have to have some money. We do not want to take out of the operating account of the school so the way the PTO will be funded is through small fundraisers like boxtops for education, Tyson Project A+, Office Depot 5% back program, goodsearch.com etc.  See link here to Recycling items for funds.

At the meetings we have sign up sheets for:

If you haven't already done so, please let me know where you would like to be plugged in.

February Update:

Hope your January was great!!!  Just wanted to give you a couple of dates and updates!!

First... Last Saturday, January 30th we held our first First Baptist Church/Angleton Christian School Blood Drive. Even though it was FREEZING outside -  we had a great turnout - I was blown away by the response.  We started with a goal of 31 and very quickly had to raise that number due to the number of people signing up to donate.  The final goal the Blood Center was set to 42.  We ended up with a whopping 54 people who showed up to donate and of those 50 were actually able to donate - that means because of this blood drive.. 150 lives were saved!!! I say WOW!!!  A huge thanks to Shelly Bowman, Shelly Emfinger, Denise Gentry and Stacie Getgood.  They helped organize this event from making phone calls, putting up posters around town, coordinating the advertisement in the FACTS and putting up a sign up table at the church!  Thanks also to all of you who volunteered the day of the event and of course all of those who showed up and gave the gift of life!!

Dates to mark on your calendar for February:
February 9th - PTO Meeting at 7:00 in Fellowship Hall

February 16th - ACS Spirit night at Chef Marc Anthony's - thanks to Parish Gayle for getting this set up for us.  Chef Marc is donating 10% of proceeds that night back to ACS. Click here for attached flier to take on the 16th.  I will also send some home in backpack express the day before.

February 21st - Bake Sale at La Casona.  This is our Community Awareness for the month of Februrary so not only will we be selling baked goods but handing out info about ACS.  The first $100 will go to the PTO and the rest of the money raised will go to our Relay for Life team that we will be putting together for the Relay For Life event in April (more info to come on that).  You will be receiving a phone call to ask if you would like to bake and/or work at the bake sale.  Thanks for your participation in getting ACS out in the community - every little effort will work towards increasing our enrollment!

See you on the Feb. 9th!!
