1. Christian School Teachers

In his book Christian School Teachers, Duane Hooper says this about teachers:

Teachers have always been a primary means of communicating truth.  Teachers, who are truly God-called, are God’s special agents commissioned to channel His Truth.

For too long, biblical principles have been ignored and consistently replaced by humanistic ideas and values.  The Master sends Christian teachers to stand in the gap sacrificially alongside school-aged children……..

If all the duties of the Christian teacher’s calling were concentrated into one overall goal, that goal would be to train and nurture students to understand their inherent worth and God-given potential as they pursue their individual courses of discovering purpose, direction, and their divinely appointed place in God’s service.

By fulfilling these divine mandates, teachers play a major role in preparing children to succeed providentially in life.  This premise is based upon the belief that every person is of great individual value and is specially prepared by the Creator for a unique place of service in His Kingdom.

Considering the magnitude of the role of teachers, it is essential that Christian teachers fully understand the full spectrum of their calling.  One of the best conclusions the Christian teacher can reach is that his or her work is not merely a job or a career serving in a school, but that it is a God-called ministry for serving the needs of children.”

We are thankful for the Christian STAFF at Angleton Christian School!

2. Reaping the Benefits of a Christian School

Reaping the Benefits of a Christian School

By Charles Walker

The joy received from watching a child grow academically and mature in the Lord makes all the effort, all the time, all the money worth it.

As a parent, you have prayed, researched, sought counsel, and examined all possible educational options. You have conscientiously made the decision to send your child to a Christian school because you understand the value and benefits of a Christian education. It might prove enlightening and encouraging to you to carefully re-examine the specific reasons that prompted you to make this critical choice for your child and why today you are reaping the benefits of a Christian school.

Your first response to the question of “why?” my child attends a Christian school may go something like this: “I enrolled my child in a Christian school to obtain a Christian education in a morally, spiritually, and physically safe environment.” However, this answer is probably an over-simplification of your decision to capitalize on the values of a Christian school. A review of the many benefits that your child reaps academically, spiritually, and socially in a Christ-centered classroom may illuminate your reasoning preparing you to “But make sure in your hearts that Christ is Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect.” (I Peter 3:15).

A child’s teacher is an important role model. Your child spends a major portion of the school day under the influence of one or more key teachers. You value the importance of the exemplary model set by your child’s teacher. In the Christian school classroom, the teacher openly teaches the truths of Scripture because his commitment compels an open, unashamed love and service to Jesus Christ. The teachers openly demonstrate and model Christian principles, one of the reasons you send your child to a Christian school.

The academic instruction in the Christian school exceeds that of the public schools. With strict standards of behavior enforced and high academic standards expected, the Christian school provides your child a better education, opening more doors in his life for future success and satisfaction. The benefits of the sound education offered in the Christian school are far-reaching and long-term, another reason you send your child to a Christian school.

Christian values and attitudes are taught and emphasized in the Christian school. The overt effects of violence and immorality so common in today’s public schools clearly demonstrate the need for a Christian education. The Christian ethics and morals expounded in your home and church are reinforced in the Christian school classroom. Nurturing a child with Biblical truth is an excellent way to equip him for maturity. The Christian values taught in the Christian home and reinforced in the Christian school enable your child to deal with a troubled world without succumbing to its troubles, another reason you send your child to a Christian school.

Opportunities for Christian friends and fellowship abound in the Christian school. Negative peer pressure is downplayed by emphasizing the relationship of each child with Jesus Christ,

and magnifying the Biblical standard of true friendship which calls for love, forgiveness, and accountability. The positive influence of a child’s Christian peers has no substitute, another reason you send your child to a Christian school.

Teacher-pupil ratio in a Christian school is lower than public schools. This smaller class size permits a teacher to spend more time with each child. Consequently, your child receives more individualized attention from the teacher, and this, of course, greatly benefits him academically and personally, another reason you send your child to a Christian school.

Obeying Biblical guidelines is essential when seeking the best for your child. Scriptural admonitions concerning the rearing of children in the Christian faith, such as Deuteronomy 6:5-7 and II Corinthians 6:14, can only be truly adhered to if children are taught in a Christian environment. The public schools cannot prepare a child for a fruitful, Christ-honoring life. In the Christian classroom, your child learns the Biblical truth absolutely necessary for living a balanced Christian life, another reason you send your child to a Christian school.

Placing your child in a Christian school may necessitate a financial sacrifice, a geographical inconvenience, or a drain on your energy, but the joy received from watching your child grow academically and mature in the Lord makes all the effort, all the time, all the money worth it. You should praise the Lord for the wisdom and direction He has given you, and thank Him for the blessings of a Christian school.

II Corinthians 6:14  14 Do not be joined to unbelievers. What do right and wrong have in common? Can light and darkness be friends?

Dr. Charles Walker is a former education director of the American Association of Christian Schools and the executive director of the Tennessee Association of Christian Schools.

3. The ACS Family

Everyone has heard the quote, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” At ACS, it is important that students FEEL how much we care. As potential students and parents visit our campus, they get a FEEL of how much everyone cares for each other. Just this past week, a fifth grade student visiting ACS had this conversation with her mother.

Mother, “Well, how did you like it?”

Student, “It really is not like a school.”

Mother is concerned, “What do you mean?”

Student, “It feels more like a family.”

Mother said at that point she was in tears, because her daughter has not enjoyed going to school in a long time.

Yesterday, I received this e-mail from a parent,

Mr. Smith,

I just wanted to take the opportunity to say THANK YOU.  I know we have said it before, but I don’t think that it can be said enough.  We are so proud to say that our kids attend Angleton Christian School.  The warm, loving, family atmosphere is such a blessing in today’s society.  Thank you for all of the hard work and dedication that you and the staff pour into making ACS the BEST school around.

Truly remarkable outcomes are possible in a school where trust, respect, and caring relationships flourish. Creating such an environment is not done by applying some theory or hearing a motivational lecture. Teachers, staff, and administrators must make sure that EACH child feels loved.

Rarely, if ever, has a generation of children been raised in such an atmosphere of uncertainty. Constant change and myriad messages-from the media, parents, teachers, and peers - can make it difficult for children to find stable, consistent moral and ethical standards that can guide their development.

Who today is teaching children how to use good judgment? Where are our children learning the character attributes necessary to become responsible, caring adults? Who are our children's heroes? Positive role models? How can we offer guidance during these confusing times?

We are fortunate at ACS in that we are able to do this through the love of God. God’s love for us is the same type of love that we want to show our students. There's one relationship that is sure and permanent. First John 4:16 clearly states, "God is love." If we believe the Bible, then we cannot deny this fact about His nature. The Word is clear: God loves us passionately.

His love toward each of us is evident throughout the Bible. In fact, there is nothing tangible, intangible, past, present, or future that can separate believers from the Father's love. John 10:14 draws a comparison between Jesus and a good shepherd—a man whose ultimate task is providing for and protecting the flock. Christ's character is one of passionate care for His people.

With Christ’s love as our model, it is our goal to create classrooms where:

  • Students feel safe,

  • Students trust that we will do what is best for them

  • Students take responsibility for their actions and performance

  • Students create self-directed classrooms where disruptive behavior, criticism of others, and inappropriate discussions are not tolerated.

  • Students are encouraged and take pride in striving to reach their maximum potential

  • Students recognize and accept diverse cultures and backgrounds

  • Friendships and life-long relationships are developed

We are thankful that ACS feels more like a family than a school. The organization Capturing Kids Hearts has this quote…. “If you have a child’s heart, you have his head.”™ - Flip Flippen. If that is true, then Christian education is the ONLY educational choice for us to establish a Christian world view in our next generation.

4. Secret of Success at ACS

One of the Secrets to Success at ACS!

There are many characteristics of Angleton Christian School which make it such a special place. First of all God is present each and every day. Each morning students in grades 3 thru 11tbegin with a devotional; sometimes teacher led and sometimes led by a student. Pre K thru 2nd grade begin their day with prayer and Bible stories.

We are fortunate to have a band of volunteers which get things done. We have volunteers who help maintain our building. We have volunteers who come regularly to ACS to tutor students. We have volunteers who decorate the building for all occasions. We have volunteers who build. We have volunteers who cook. We have volunteers who serve, volunteers who Coach, volunteers who run our library, volunteers who help in the office, and volunteers who organize fundraisers. Our volunteers can do anything. I know, because I watch in amazement as each one serves God and helps in creating the successes of ACS students.

Secondly, what educators call the culture of a school; I call the heart of ACS. The heart of ACS is one of encouragement and caring. ACS is not a place where we tear down others to boost our own self-esteem. At ACS students and teachers really care for each other. Teachers and students encourage, help, and support each other. ACS students and teachers love and support each other much like a family.

Another special characteristic in the success of ACS are our incredible parents. Our parents are willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES for ACS and their children to be successful. Any need made known to them will be met quickly and without question. If you look around the campus there are many examples. There are also examples that are not so obvious as well. Library books given to teachers and/or donated to school library, notes of appreciation and encouragement sent to teachers, and there are always parents available when help is needed for fundraisers, class activities, etc. Recently a parent was here to pick up her child and I ask if she could help with a special need. Without questioning the need, she agreed and spent the entire next day taking care of the situation. ACS parents are always making me aware of educational opportunities that might benefit our students. Several of our students are participants in the Angleton Chamber Young Entrepreneur Academy because an ACS parent made sure we were included in the program. ACS parents are key ingredients in our success.

Parent Engagement is vital to student achievement and personal success. According to research, the most accurate predictor of a student's achievement in school is not income or social status, but the extent to which that student's family is able to create an environment that encourages learning and communicates high, reasonable, expectations for their children's achievement and future careers. Research also makes clear the importance of parental involvement their children's education.

Successful kids and successful schools share a secret ingredient: supportive parents! This means the time you spend helping at school also boosts your child's chances for success.

Students and their schools both rely on parents to help them be their best. Students need a supportive atmosphere for learning at home and someone to advocate for them at school. ACS and our parents form a team in which our common goal is the academic, social, and spiritual growth and success of our children.

Students and their schools benefit from supportive parents. ACS is very fortunate to have supportive parents. We want you to know that we love and appreciate you!

5. History, Excitement and Concern

blog photo

History, Excitement, and Concern

What do YOU see here? I see the FIRST college students from ACS. Monday, January 14 was exciting and historic for ACS. Austin Jones, Silje Olsen, Michaela Hurst, Garrett Auer, Jordan Moreno, Katelyn Soell, Shyenne Smith, Regina Brown and Grace Snodgrass represent the first Dual/concurrent enrolled students at ACS. These students are enrolled in Learning Frameworks which is a required course for all students in the dual/concurrent program. Dual means the students are enrolled in Angleton Christian School AND Brazosport College, concurrent means they will get High School credit for graduation and college credit toward their degree.

Brazosport College has worked very closely with ACS and to help make this happen. The usual minimum enrollment is 15 students. They allowed us to have this course with 10. God also provided us with a professor especially for ACS. While meeting with Robert Irizarry to make sure that classroom was ready, he said that he was a Christian and had his own ministry, played the saxophone. I immediately ask him to speak at Chapel and I think we will hear from Professor Irizarry at chapel soon.

Taking college courses is a big step for ALL students. They will be treated as college students and young adults!! No more second chances, no more mom or dad talking with the teacher for extended time. It is TIME for them to grow up and be held accountable for their education.

So you see that it is HISTORIC and EXCITING. ACS students are like our OWN children. Our students become part of our lives and so, like their parents, we also have concerns as they take this huge step!! We are excited and pray that God will guide these students to SUCCESS!!

6. So Much More

blog photo ACS is so much more than just a Christian school with strong academics. Our students participate in so many activities that help them to learn the importance of giving. Our students experience that it is not always about them. One of the most recent examples was collecting food and snacks to pack in “care” packages for our service men overseas. This is done in cooperation with the Military Moms organization for Brazoria County. The project is one that Mrs. Hamlin’s sponsors and supports.

Hello, I'm part of Unit HMLA-169, currently serving in Afghanistan. I received a care package from my command given by you guys. I saw the email posted in each package and didn’t think twice about writing to yall. I'm from Brazoria County. I'm from Lake Jackson! So it was a good feeling knowing that my community is doing great things for us out here. I appreciate everything in the packages (especially the Doritos!) Your love and support has made a difference to the morale around here. Just wanted to take the time to thank you guys again. Semper Fi Respectfully Sent, Cpl Rodriguez, J. HMLA-169

Subject: [Military Moms and Wives of Brazoria County] Greetings, Today we received two of your care packages. They were loaded with plenty of goodies. I would like to extend my thanks to each and every person that took part in the preparation and packaging. The gifts received will be put to good use and they give us a little taste of back home. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort that reminds us that we are not forgotten. After serving 20 years in the Marine Corps, I retired. The care packages are always appreciated. Once again, thank you.

The first of two Christmas plays will be presented on December 6 at 6:30 PM.  Pre K thru Second Grade students will perform for you at First Baptist Church Angleton  located at 237 East Locust.   Our Christmas play is a birthday party for Jesus. The 2nd grade will be the party host.

Costume needs:  Mrs. Hazlewood would like for the students to come dressed up, dressed for the special occasion.  First grade will be shepherds, sheep, and nativity characters.  If you were in our play last year, use that biblical times costume.  I need some sheep, white and black ones; white or black sweatshirts/t-shirts will be fine with jeans. I have a hand held mask for them.

Kindergarten and PK-4 students will be guest at the party, party clothes for them.

PK-3 will be the animals at the manger, ACS has those costumes. I think we saved them from last year.

Cake will be served!! It's a birthday party!!

9. Beacon Article November 27, 2012

A wise man once said, "There's nothing more powerful than the heart of a volunteer".

2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.

When I think of that verse, the first thing that comes to my mind is monetary giving, but God wants us to cheerfully volunteer every good thing He has so mercifully allowed us to have –- things we often take for granted — our time, our energy, our abilities, our talents, our homes, our cars, our families –- all that we have – all that He has cheerfully given to us!

There are many people who make up the ACS family.  If you are not involved at ACS, we invite you to join us.   God has a place for you and we need you.  There are many areas of involvement.  One of the simplest ways to support ACS is to join us for Chapel each Wednesday morning at 9 am.

If you would like a little more involvement, we can make that possible as well.  We have many areas for you to get involved.  Perhaps you would like to help with our younger students during lunch.  Many of these need juice opened or help preparing their lunch.  ACS teachers do that each day, but having someone take care of student needs would allow them to have an uninterrupted lunch.

Maybe you would like to help with students who stay with us until 5:30 in after school care.  They color, play outside, have a snack, watch a movie, and participate in other activities that keep them active and involved.

What about helping a student in an area of school work where he/she is having difficulty.  We always need tutors and/or mentors to help students with reading, math, spelling, and homework.  Your individual help and attention may be just what is needed to help a student be successful.

ACS teachers can always use help making copies, organizing class activities, helping at recess, or assisting with the planning of Chapel.  There is no minimum or maximum time requirement.  Whatever time you have available, God will help place you in an area of need.  Technology, music, art, coach, decorating, cooking, yard work, referee a game, maintenance, or whatever talent God has given you can be used at ACS.

ACS teachers and current volunteers do a great job meeting the needs of each student.  God carefully chooses the skills and abilities He gives to each of us.  When you find your special skill or ability, ask God to show you how to use it. With your gift, you can make a powerful difference.  God has an important role for you to fill.

See you Wednesday morning at 9 am for Chapel.

11. Thank You From a Veteran

Mr. Smith,

My name is David Peterson, I am a US Army Veteran.  I spent 21 year 2 months and 9 days in the US Army.  I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the invitation, the wonderful meal and the fabulous presentation that the
beautiful children of your school set up for us Veterans on the 7th of Nov 2012.

Most, if not all, Viet Nam era Veterans did not receive a welcome home upon returning from the war.  The welcome homes began around the time of the first Gulf war.  Since that time I have received many welcomes from fellow Veterans and folks that want to show their appreciation for our service.

I returned from Viet Nam on Sept 22nd of 1967, after doing 2 tours in the war.  I am 69 years old and this was the best welcome home and show of appreciation that I have ever received.  Most of the children that participated may be too young to fully understand the impact of what they did for all of us.

I want to thank them for all the hard work that they put into this for us.  As a member of the Brazoria County Cavalry, this is what we attempt to do for all Veterans.  But, nothing that we could ever do for other Veterans will ever top what your children did for us today.

Again, thank you so very much.

1SG David Peterson
US Army (Retired)

Don't forget to check out our PTO blog for upcoming events as well.  We also have pictures of our Veterans Day chapel on our Facebook page.

Hi Gordon,

I have great news! Dow Texas Operations recently hit our goal of improving our safety performance in the second quarter of 2012 versus our second quarter performance in 2011, and to celebrate we would like to award Angleton Christian School with a Safety Makes Cents donation of $2,000! Our Safety Makes Cents program encourages employees to nominate and vote for their favorite non-profit organization, then once we hit a predetermined safety goal we award the organization next in line with the most votes a $2,000 donation, and so on down the list as we continue to hit our goals.

Please let me know what day/time you are available to come to APB for a photo with the presentation check. You are invited to bring representatives from your organization as well.

Congratulations!

15. ACS Pride

ACS Pride

Wow!! It is hard to believe, but ¼ of this school year is done!! On Wednesday,October 24, will be our awards chapel for the first nine weeks achievements. Not only have the students been working hard academically, but ACS students have been busy in many other areas: blood drive, Washington DC , volleyball, cheerleaders, puppet ministry, 4-H Club, Grandparents Day, field trips, weekly chapel, PSAT testing for high school students, and our Fall Auction that raised over $50,000. We have about 130 students and MANY activities for student involvement at almost any age.

There are many more fun and exciting things coming up as well. Muffins with Moms along with first nine weeks awards chapel is Wednesday, October 24. Another fun day is book character day on Friday, October 26. Our third thru fifth graders dress as a character in one of the books they have read. If I remember correctly, last year we had Pecos Bill, a couple of princesses, Junie B. Jones, a Star Wars character, and several other book characters visiting ACS. Veterans’ Day is Monday, November 12, and we will honor the veterans with breakfast and chapel on Wednesday, November 7. Volleyball is coming to an end, but basketball Warriors of Coach Gilliam are ready to take the floor. There is ALWAYS something going on around here.

ACS teachers are incredible. We hold high expectations for each of our students and require a lot from them because we really are not interested in just being GOOD. Teachers work hard to make learning fun without sacrificing academic rigor. Students are challenged and have to work hard to make A’s. As educators, we work diligently to become better teachers. We take risks as learners and teachers. We communicate effectively. We make sure everyone feels physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe. We give and receive respect. We have compassion for one another. We establish and maintain healthy friendships. We want to be THE BEST.

None of this would be possible without parental support. Parents help make all the activities happen. Parents work with their children. Parents expect their children to behave and spend time with their children. Teachers are required to contact parents at the first indication of difficulty or missing assignments. Our parents immediately want to know what they can do to help “fix” the problem. It is really impossible to describe the involvement and support from the parents of ACS students. Our parents make a huge difference.

The book of Proverbs is filled with the instructions given by Solomon to his sons. The son is exhorted to learn from this instruction, and the result of the application of the knowledge learned is called wisdom. The word “education” may not appear in the English form in the Bible, but Scripture does say a lot about the process of education, and it begins with the parent and child. The command to parents is to nurture their children in the Lord (Ephesians 6:4) and the Greek word paideia translated “nurture” in the KJV carries with it the idea of training, education, instruction and discipline. As children learn about God, they are given the opportunity to wisely honor their parents, and the basis of that honor is the ongoing process of education and the application of what is learned. Solomon tells us that the basis of all true knowledge is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7). The word “fear” here does not carry the idea of terror or dread, but rather it is awe and reverence for the holiness and majesty of God and a reluctance to disappoint or disobey Him. Jesus said that when we know the truth, the truth will make us free (John 8:32). Freedom from fear comes from being educated in Truth.

Biblical education equips born-again believers so that God is able to perform in them that work He has ordained (Ephesians 2:10). Biblical education transforms us by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2), the ongoing process of applying knowledge with the mind of Christ, “who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30).

You can be proud of ACS and the educational environment being provided.

Several of our students volunteered yesterday when asked if they wanted to participate.  We need to know that you are aware and approve of them participating in this event.   They will wear ACS chapel shirt and meet at Shipley Donuts @ 9 AM Saturday morning.  You will need to pick them up at the END of the parade which will be at Subway.  If pick-up is a problem, we will be able to pick ACS students up at Subway and transport them back to ACS where you can pick them up.  Students should be finished and ready to be picked up around 12:30 PM Saturday.

You are invited to the final dress rehearsal at 1 PM at the Center for the Arts and Sciences. That is the building at the FRONT of Brazosport College. Admission is FREE, so go to VBS, take the kids to lunch and make your way to “The Sword of Young King Arthur”.

Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20 GWT)

Not only does Paul reassure us here that God can do more than we can ask, but he also makes it clear that God can do abundantly more than we can even think of. Paul is reminding us that nothing is too big for God. No situation that we find ourselves in, or need that we might have, is beyond the power of God.

24. Cost of Christian Education

Last week, my  article was entitled Why Choose a Christian Education and I told you that in the next few weeks each Beacon article would address some area of Christian education.  Since July is the first month that ACS parents receive tuition statements for the 2012-2013 school year, it seems appropriate to talk about the COST.

ACS tuition may be less than any other Christian school in the area, but that certainly does not mean it is not a significant expense for parents.  Parents and families make great sacrifices for their children and grandchildren to attend ACS.  It is amazing to see the commitment of each of these families.  Some operate on FAITH.  They understand that God will provide.

The following article is one that seems appropriate to share with you this week.

Why Money Is Never An Issue

This is a very real problem, and one of the most common parental objections.  Christian schools cost money.  A lot of money.  But before we get too carried away with fiscal concerns, we need to ask ourselves an important question.

Do we have a moral obligation to give our children a Christian education?  If so, then God will do for us what He does anytime He gives us a command.  He’ll give us the means to obey it.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.”   (Matthew 13:45-46)

Statements like “God will make a way” or “If He’s called you, He’ll equip you” may sound a little trite.  But they happen to be true.  If you have a biblical mandate to provide your children with a Christian education – and all of us have to make that determination for ourselves, …… then He will provide.

He may give you a raise.  He may show you how to cut a few corners.  But one way or another, He will make a way – because if educating your children in a Christian setting is a genuine responsibility, the financial cost becomes a genuine need.  And God has promised to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

There are other ways God may provide the necessary funding.  In some cases, churches have been known to assist their members.  And, of course, many schools offer financial aid or scholarships to students.

At the end of the day, God may ask you to take a step of faith.  Then another.  Then another.  Pretty soon, you’ll be walking in a promise that’s been repeated so often it’s become the quintessential Christian cliché.  When God calls us to a task, He equips us to fulfill it.  The Red Sea was no match for Him.

There are students wanting to attend ACS and needing financial assistance.  Perhaps you would like to help make Christian education a possibility for a student.  ACS has a scholarship fund to which you can make contributions or if you would like more information, call the ACS office 979-864-3842.

Next week, we will address the question “Do we have a moral obligation to give our children a Christian education? “

Grace and Peace,

Gordon

25. Summer July 2012

Why choose Christian Education

Summer is half over and many parents are trying to determine the best place to educate their children.  Parents who have already enrolled their child in ACS have done so for various reasons.  Some have selected ACS for the Christian moral foundation, Christian curriculum, Christian teachers, and Christian families.  Others may have selected ACS for the small classes and the small student to teacher ratio which means that each child can receive individual attention.  And there are still others who have had an upleasant experience with public education and have decided that ACS would be better for their child.  There are countless other parents who are struggling to determine the best educational setting for their child

Parents consider so many important factors when choosing a school for their children.

Location and transportation are obvious ones.  Are there opportunities for sport, or creative expression in drama, music, art.  Can a school be too big or too small?  What are the class sizes, teacher qualifications, facilities and use of technology?  Is there a caring atmosphere? What are the costs including uniforms, camps and excursions?  Are there enough electives?  Will my child do well enough academically for university and career choices?  Will they make good friends?

These are all important considerations. However, these may not actually be the most important factors.  In Romans the Bible says ”Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will”  Romans 12:2.

School plays a powerful role in the life of a child.  Many parents choose not to allow their children to be conformed to this society's patterns of life through school.  School helps children decide what is and is not important.  It is important for parents to teach children their beliefs, values, and how they see the world around them.  It is just as important that the school support those values and beliefs.

Most of all Christian parents understand their responsibility to raise their children.  They desire a partnership where Jesus Christ, God and the Bible, as well as their own role as parents is honored.  Parents, students, and the ACS staff form a partnership so that each child’s opportunities are maximized.  One of our goals is to help ACS students recognize and discover God in every aspect of life. We want students to understand that Christianity is not something limited to Sundays, the home or church. It impacts every area of life.

When asked "why have Christian schools" the simple answer is we want our children to be taught the truth.  Apostle John said of his spiritual children – I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth” 3 John 1:4 ?

In the coming weeks, you will see more info about the purpose, philosophy, and reasons for choosing Christian education.
