9. Elves for Santa Store Needed

Hello Warrior parents,

A quick note to ask for your help, as you know we have a Santa's workshop on campus till Friday.  We would love to have 2-4 people work the shop on Thursday after school as well as Friday after school for 1-2 hours each day.

We also need helpers for lunch time 10:30am to 12:30 daily.

Basically the kids come in and you will help them shop for their family members and help them pay with money that has been sent.  Then wrap and label the gifts for them.

As you can imagine this takes a lot of time and the only person who has been able to work during the day is Michelle Powless.  Please let me know asap if you can help.

Thank you,

Melissa R Wheeler

12. New PTO Agenda Outline

Good Evening PTO Warriors,

As it has been mentioned before; this years PTO board is new and many are serving their first year as PTO board members. With the newness comes fresh ideas, a passion for the organization and a willingness to serve. However, unintentional human errors will likely be made. We ask for your continued patience and understanding as we move forward together this year.

We would like to make a few changes to our monthly meetings. These changes are being made in hopes that all in attendance will leave with:

  • A better understanding as to past and future events ACS has planned.
  • The knowledge that you have a voice in your organization that is heard and respected.
  • Satisfaction that issues have been presented and decided with the majority rule in effect.
  • Has a full knowledge of ACS PTO spending.

We would like to make sure that as the Bible has called us to be faithful stewards of our time, money and talents that we are bringing all praise to God in our efforts to help our children and one another.

The following will be our new PTO meeting format effective Dec. 11, 2012.

    15. Thank You From a Veteran

    Mr. Smith,

My name is David Peterson, I am a US Army Veteran.  I spent 21 year 2 months and 9 days in the US Army.  I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the invitation, the wonderful meal and the fabulous presentation that the
beautiful children of your school set up for us Veterans on the 7th of Nov 2012.

Most, if not all, Viet Nam era Veterans did not receive a welcome home upon returning from the war.  The welcome homes began around the time of the first Gulf war.  Since that time I have received many welcomes from fellow Veterans and folks that want to show their appreciation for our service.

I returned from Viet Nam on Sept 22nd of 1967, after doing 2 tours in the war.  I am 69 years old and this was the best welcome home and show of appreciation that I have ever received.  Most of the children that participated may be too young to fully understand the impact of what they did for all of us.

I want to thank them for all the hard work that they put into this for us.  As a member of the Brazoria County Cavalry, this is what we attempt to do for all Veterans.  But, nothing that we could ever do for other Veterans will ever top what your children did for us today.

Again, thank you so very much.

    1SG David Peterson
    US Army (Retired)

    16. Minutes of the last Meeting

    Hello Parents & Teachers,

Please forgive my tardiness in getting this email out to you all. Our secretary had Lasik surgery 2 days after our meeting I was unable to get the notes from her. We are aiming to get Mins recap e-mail to all of you within 24-48 hours after a PTO meeting.

    Start: 6:40 pm

    Place: ACS Chapel

    Present: 27 people

    Last meeting: 16 present

    PTO Board present:

    Melissa Wheeler Pres.

    Kristi Smith Vice Pres.

    Jessie Tomlinson Secretary

    Absent:

    Liz Anthony worked late.

Melissa Wheeler opened in prayer and welcomed parents and teachers.

    Mr. Smith reviewed 4 items:

    1. report Cards went out that day

    2. Red Warrior Folders

Took a vote DO we want to continue sending info home in Red Warrior folders on Tues?

Issues are that it takes 2-4 hours to prepare folders

Many children do not get the information to the parents

Many children do not return their folders

ALL the same information is covered daily in Daily Communications that Mr. Smith emails

Took voted and voted to DISCONTINUE the use of Red Warrior Folders starting the second 6 weeks of school.

Now all info will continue to be shared via Daily communications as well as forms in the Childs take home binder

    3. Clarification on "Friday Dress" and "Free Dress"

    4. Daily communications: Read them :)

    Annoncent and discussed:

    • Last months drawing winners - Elizabeth, Olivia Fine
    • Military Mom Supply drive -
      • Mrs. Hamlin's over till Nov 7th. All needs made known verbally as well as on official PTO Blog
    • Sr. Jackets -
      • Tabled until the parents of the older children are available to discuss.
    • Muffins with Mom -
      • Gave final information on this encourage all moms to come
    • Awards Chapel -
      • To be held the next day after Muffins with Moms. Starting 30 mins earlier than usual
    • Past Shirt and Fleece order -
      • Explained why the delay and receiving the items as well as the fact that the Fleeces would be delivered no later than Friday of that week
    • Hoodie Orders - This is optional but we offered it bcs some parents requested the option for Pull over hoodies
      • Mr. Smith DID approve children to wear the hoodies ONLY if they are the SCHOOL authorized hoodies. NOT during Chapel
    • Veterans Day Breakfast and Chapel -
      • NEXT Wed. gave details as to time and events of the day, encouraged to attend
    • Butter Braid fundraiser - Was moved to NOV since so many had requested this.
      • Asked why we don't do the pizza fundraiser again since it was so successful.
        • I expressed that Mr. Smith and I agree that it would be successful 1 time a year not 2 times. the more availability the less the need to purchase.
        • Will run from nov. 2-26
    • #2 Blood Drive Tuesday Nov. 13, 2012
      • Contact me to sign up for a time slot
      • Go online to register bf you come in to donated and it will be faster

    Possible spending issue:

I made it knew that 4 new step stools were need in the restrooms and the 2 water fountains for the "littles". With out them 40 mins -60 mns were wasted in the learning day bcs of delays in the restrooms, the littles can not reach to wash their hands or get water so this holds up the process.

Question: Was it ok for PTO to make these purchases since we doing good with money at the time?

Answer: YES with out a doubt

Action: BEFORE the meeting was completed that night The Durons went tot he store and ought 4 brand new step stools for the children!

    THANK YOU Gabe and Aimee!

Meeting was adjourned and parents were encouraged to shop with their children at the PTO fair that night.

NEXT PTO MEETING at 6:30 pm on Tuesday November 13, 2012

    FREE child care provided.

For the Parents: We will have samples of the Butter Braids

    25. Parade Response: Thank YOU!

A huge SHOUT out to all the ACS Warriors and Parent Warriors! We had the best float (in my opinion) in the entire parade!
Thank you so much for donating items like balloons, crepe paper, candy and other supplies!
    Thank you for coming out and working on the float on your Friday off parents ;
THANK YOU for coming with your ACS Spirit shirts early in the AM, sitting over an hour in the parade line and loving the kids and staff as you all do!
It was a huge turnout. We had lil over 50 kids and sooo many staff, teachers and parents! THANK YOU BIG !

    KEEP IN TOUCH,

    Melissa R. Wheeler
