Laura Smith

I am so excited to teach at ACS again this year as the 2nd and 3rd grade Bible and Science teacher!  I absolutely love both subjects!  This will be my 29th year to teach school and my 8th year at ACS!

I grew up in Lake Jackson and graduated from Brazoswood High School.  I attended Oral Roberts University, majoring in special education and getting certified in general education as well.  After graduation, I spent the summer at an orphanage in Egypt.

Shortly after college, I met and married Barry Smith and we have had quite the adventure over the last 41 years!  We have lived in several locations in Texas before moving to Belize, Central America as missionaries for 18 years.

I taught in several school districts before we moved to Belize in 1994, 30 years ago.  While there, God blessed us with children to raise as our own.  We started a school for them and later had a church.  In our most recent years in Belize, we trained leaders in a Mayan community to share the gospel with others. While in Belize, I taught in a Christian School and an international school, as well as our own school, Christian Learning Center. We returned to Belize for a visit as a family and surprised our Belizean children for Christmas.  It was a wonderful trip!  (See attached photos)

In 2000, we were blessed to give birth to our miracle, Judah Daniel Smith, weighing in at 1 pound 14 ounces!  He graduated from ACS in 2019!  He now works for ACS in maintenance.

We returned to the USA ten years ago to take care of Barry's mom. After returning, I taught 3rd grade math and science at ACS for 2 years, then 3 years in public school teaching 4th grade math and writing.  Five years ago,  I returned to ACS and  taught 3rd-5th Math.  Now, I am in my happy place, 2nd and 3rd grade, Bible and Science!  ACS has a special place in our family's heart and it is an honor to teach here!
