Don't Take Blessings for Granted

Updated: Mar 24, 2021

We each need to make a concentrated effort to always live life to its fullest and show our love and appreciation to those we care about. We never know when they, or we, may be taken from this Earth.

It is very easy for us to get caught up in the busy-ness of life. All of us deal with schedules that are too full, overflowing to-do lists, and hectic daily activities that fill up our calendars. Before you know it, we have lost track of our loved ones and maybe not communicated with the people close to us in longer than we care to admit.

The daily challenges of family are often tough and our love for each other is overshadowed by the challenges of life. There are times in any family when the obligations and chores in caring for each other becomes annoying. As children grow up and mature, at some point they begin to feel that the guidelines of authority have become “unfair” or “ridiculous”. They grow up and “know more than ANYONE”. There are times when parents grow weary of delivering children to daily activities, cooking, cleaning, washing, working, helping with homework. We soon find ourselves arguing and screaming at WHOMEVER.

But scripture reveals that families are to love, honor, and appreciate one another.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Colossians 3:18-19 18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Psalm 127:3 “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him” .

Colossians 3:20-21 “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Parents, do not embitter your children or they will become discouraged.”

And regardless of your biological family situation, God also blesses you with a whole host of Christian brothers and sisters. Be grateful for the diversity and friendship that the family of Christ brings to your life.

Life is always going to be busy. We are always going to have too much on our plate. But we only have one mom, one dad, one sibling, one aunt or uncle, one friend… and we never know when they may be taken from us.

Stop taking God’s blessings for granted. Start sincerely noticing and thanking God for all the blessings in your life, big and small.

We have been BLESSED in so many areas and most of us rarely take time to recognize, appreciate, and thank GOD. FAMILY, health, job, home, church, salvation, FREEDOMS, and friends are some of the obvious blessings many of us have grown to take for granted.

Most everyone has experienced situations that make us aware that, “We don’t know what you have ’til it’s gone.” BUT WE DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR TROUBLE TO OPEN OUR EYES TO GOD’S BLESSINGS.
